Ph.D. Student Position

Stellenangebot vom 16. August 2017

The newly established research group “Biochemistry of signal dynamics” (Alex C. Faesen) at the Max Planck Institute of Biophysical Chemistry is looking as soon as possible from October 2017 for a

Ph.D. Student (m/f)
- Molecular mechanisms of signal complex dynamics -
(Reference number 33-17)

We are looking for a highly motivated Ph.D. student who will work on reconstituting the assembly dynamics of key signaling protein complexes involved in cell division, DNA damage signalling and autophagy. Our primary interest is to unveil the molecular mechanisms that drive the controlled assembly and disassembly of these signaling protein complexes in the cell, so to be able eventually to manipulate them meaningfully. Most of our projects use a bottom-up approach, building macromolecular machines from scratch to understand them in details using a combination of biochemical reconstitution, structural biology and biophysical investigations.

Candidates should hold a Master’s (or equivalent) degree in life science and a strong interest and motivation to biochemically reconstitute molecular machines and should appreciate detailed problem solving. A background in molecular biology is essential and experience with protein biochemistry would be an advantage.

You will join a young dynamic international research team, which is generously funded by the Max Planck Society. You will collaborate with scientists with expertise in different disciplines and you will be closely supervised and supported at this pivotal stage of your career. The payment and benefits are based on the TVöD guidelines.

The Max Planck Society is committed to increasing the number of individuals with disabilities in its workforce and therefore encourages applications from such qualified individuals. Furthermore, the Max Planck Society seeks to increase the number of women in those areas where they are underrepresented and therefore explicitly encourages women to apply.

Please send your application including a cover letter (explaining background and motivation), CV, a list of publications (if applicable) and contact names and addresses of two to four references familiar with the work of the candidate. Please submit all materials preferably in electronic form (as one single PDF file) via e-mail with reference to the code number until September 30th, 2017 at the latest to
