Sharp live images from the mouse brain |

Stefan Hell and his team have suceeded in visualizing finest details of nerve cells in the brain of a living mouse. Using STED microscopy, they have recorded the so far sharpest images of the structures which allow nerve cells to communicate with each other.

Junior researcher Shuo Zhang receives two prizes at Falling Walls Lab in Berlin |

Shuo Zhang, postdoctoral fellow in the Biomedizinische NMR Forschungs GmbH at the MPI for Biophysical Chemistry, was awarded the first prize as well as the Audience Award at the Falling Walls Lab for his research on real-time magnetic resonance imaging.

Meyenburg Prize 2011 goes to Stefan Hell |

The Göttingen-based physicist is awarded the Meyenburg Prize 2011 for his development of an entirely new light microscope. This technology allows to observe structures in living cells in the range of nanometers for the first time.

EU supports Göttingen Max Planck scientists |

Markus Zweckstetter at the MPI for Biophysical Chemistry receives a "Starting Independent Researcher Grant" by the European Union worth 1.5 million euro for his research on transport proteins. Another grant is awarded to Matthew Holt at the institute.

Gothenburg Lise Meitner Prize 2010/2011 goes to Stefan Hell |

Stefan Hell, head of the Department of NanoBiophotonics at the MPI for Biophysical Chemistry, has been awarded the Gothenburg Lise Meitner Prize "for his groundbreaking development of light microscopy and its applications in biological settings".
