International Max Planck Research Schools (IMPRS)

The "International Max Planck Research Schools" (IMPRS) are an initiative of the Max Planck Society and its partner universities to promote junior scientists and researchers. They offer especially gifted students from Germany and abroad the possibility to prepare for their Ph.D. exam in a structured program providing excellent research conditions.

In Göttingen there are three International Max Planck Research Schools, the "IMPRS for Molecular Biology", the "IMPRS for Neurosciences" and the "IMPRS for Physics of Biological and Complex Systems". Both the IMPRS for Molecular Biology and for Neuroscience run intensive, research-oriented graduate programs. With the B.Sc. or equivalent as entry level, the programs lead to the Masters of Sciences in 1 ½ years, and to the Ph.D. (equivalent to Dr. rer. nat.) in four years. The IMPRS for Physics of Biological and Complex Systems is a doctoral program and requires a diploma- or master’s Degree as entry level. Students obtain an intensive theoretical and practical training, enabling them to complete their Ph.D. within three years.

The Göttingen Research Schools are joint enterprises of the Max Planck Institutes for Biophysical Chemistry, for Experimental Medicine, for Dynamics and Selforganization, of the German Primate Center and of the University of Göttingen. The training faculty includes professors and lecturers of several University Schools and Departments as well as faculty members of the Max Planck Institutes. They include many internationally renowned scientists with a wide range of resarch interests. For application requirements, deadlines, overviews over the training program, lists of the training faculties, and other informations, please visit the webpages of the Training Programs.
