Gene expression and signaling

The research focus of our group lies on two different projects:
I. Regulation of stem cell division and maintenance by the RNAi pathway in
Drosophila germline (Shcherbata HR et al 2007 Cell Stem Cell; Hatfield SD,
Shcherbata HR et al 2005 Nature). We will try to figure out stage-specific
requirements for Dicer-1 dependent pathway for germline stem cell maintenance
and division.
II. A Drosophila model of muscular dystrophy (Shcherbata HR et al 2007 EMBO
J). We will analyze potential modifiers of muscular dystrophy phenotypes,
that were found in successfully performed genetic screens for Dystrophin and
Dystroglycan interactors. This will provide new insights into the origin of
muscular dystrophy and potential treatment of the disease.
