Bioanalytical Mass Spectrometry
The group works on the detection and analysis of proteins, protein complexes, nucleic acids and ribonucleoprotein (RNP) complexes, using electrospray ionisation (ESI) and matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionisation (MALDI) mass spectrometry.
Our central research topics are in the development of methods for the efficient and sensitive analysis of protein content (proteomics), the detection of (post-translational) modifications and the mass-spectrometric quantification of protein components.
A major area of our activity - in collaboration with the Department of Cellular Biochemistry - is the identification of protein-RNA contacts sites in native protein-RNA complexes following cross-linking. A further central area is the mass-spectrometric analysis of integral membrane proteins, in collaboration with the Department of Neurobiology. The service department Mass Spectrometry is part of the Bioanalytical Mass Spectrometry Group.
