Biomolecular Spectroscopy and Single-Molecule Detection
The research group Biomolecular Spectroscopy and Single Molecule Detection uses special methods of optical spectroscopy and confocal microscopy to study important biological problems which cannot be investigated by conventional biochemical methods. Important techniques are: optical single molecule detection and nonlinear microscopic methods such as confocal two-photon fluorescence correlation spectroscopy or ultra fast spectroscopy.
Currently we use these methods to investigate, for example, basic mechanisms in neuro transmission and the natural photosynthetic transformation of solar energy into chemically stored energy as well as artificial photosynthetic systems. Another important focus in our research is the development of label-free detection technologies for investigating biomolecular interactions on a microscopic scale without the influence of artificial labels.
