Collaboration: Erwin Neher, Dept. Membrane Biophysics

(since June 2002)

The group will use the methods, which have been jointly developed during the last 10 years, to study various aspects of membrane trafficking, particularly stimulus-secretion coupling in neuroendocrine cells. It is expeted that structure-function studies, employing a large number of mutated secretory proteins will shed light into the complicated molecular interactions, which take place, when secretory vesicles dock at the plasma membrane, develop a secretory fusion apparatus, interact with Ca-channels and finally get exocytosed in a Ca-triggered reaction. A major goal of this initiative is to enable the MPG partner group to assemble the volume of equipment, research materials and manpower in order to make best use of its internationally leading expertise and to do so in collaboration with the MPIbpC .
