Various processes related to endocrine function, such as control of exocytosis from large dense core granules, are being analysed on the single cell level. The methods used include patch clamp recording, carbon fiber amperometry and flash photolysis caged Ca2+. The aim is an understanding of the molecular machinery involved in the release of hormones and neurotransmitters from neuroendocrine cells.
