(since January 2005)
It is intended to study by experiments and by theory, the kinetics of elementary reactions of chlorofluorocarbons such as they are of relevance in atmospheric chemistry. The experiments will emply laser flash photolysis and steady-state photolysis. Theoretical investigations will be based on quantum-chemical calculations in combination with statistical theories of unimolecular dissociation/recombination reactions. The work will concentrate on more complex systems than studied in the past, such as reactions of fluorine-sulphur-oxygen or fluorine-carbon-oxygen compounds. The relevance of these reactions for atmospheric kinetics will be elucidated. In addition, critical evaluations of kinetic and photochemical data for atmosphric modeling will be continued.
