Organization of functionalized molecules in single-and multi-component monolayers at the air-water interface by spreading organic solutions of amphiphilic molecules and control of intermolecular interactions via composition and compression of the monolayer formed; such organized monolayers are potential modules of molecular machines on the nanometer scale; construction of assemblies by transfer of different organized monolayers to solid supports for the investigation of interlayer interactions.
