Information
for students and postdocs
All students interested to join the group:
Apply directly to Reinhard Jahn or ask for
an appointment at the Departmental office
1. Pre-diploma students interested in a
lab rotation - Studenten, die sich für ein Laborpraktikum interessieren
- The group welcomes students who wish to
do a laboratory rotation such as required in several Diplom-Studiengängen
. Please note that the minimal duration is four weeks. A lab rotation
is recommended for students who plan to apply for a slot for a diploma or
Ph.D. thesis. However, it is not mandatory, in particular if the students
are enrolled in the Göttingen international graduate program in Molecular
Biology or Neuroscience.
2. Students interested in a Diploma Thesis
- Studenten, die sich für eine Diplomarbeit interessieren
- The group will accept a limited number of
diploma students. Please apply at least 3-4 months before the anticipated
starting date. Note that the Max-Planck-Institute is not affiliated directly
with Göttingen University, requiring a University-based mentor (usually
a Professor) and approval by your Fakultät or Fachbereich.
.
3. Students interested in a Ph.D. Thesis
- Studenten, die sich für eine Dissertation interessieren
- The group will accept a limited number of
Ph.D. students with a diploma in Biology, Chemistry or Physics. Highly motivated
and hard-working students who have done their Diploma Thesis within the group
have preference but applicants from outside are also welcome.
As for Diploma Theses, a host University is needed to which the student is
formally affiliated and which grants the degree. In the past, the duration
for a Ph.D. thesis was about 3 years. It is expected that Ph.D. students are
highly motivated and fully concentrate on their work.
4. Postdoctoral candidates
- Scientists interested to join the laboratory
as postdoctoral fellows should apply at least 6-9 months in advance in order
to leave time to apply for funding. Applications should contain a CV including
a list of published papers, a short description of the project and the techniques
with which the candidate is familiar, and the names of at least two independent
scientists as reference.
