| Montage of the snakelocks anemone Anemonia sulcata. The asFP595 protein causing the fluorescence of the tentacles is modelled into the centre of the anemone. The chromophore molecule buried within the protein scaffold is shown as spheres. The biological function of asFP595 is to protect the epithelial cells from harmful UV light, as the anemone lives in shallow water. Fluorescence image of the anemone by Alexander Mustard. | ||||
