Lena read Biology at Braunschweig University of Technology. She then joined the lab of Thomas Jentsch as a Boehringer Ingelheim Fellow to study the molecular basis of a rare bone disease (osteopetrosis; characterised by thicker, yet brittle bone) and earned her PhD in Cell Biology from the Freie Universität (Free University) Berlin. As a FEBS and EMBO Long-Term Fellow in the labs of Paul Luzio and David Owen at the Cambridge Institute for Medical Research (UK), she investigated the machinery involved in membrane transport within cells. At Cambridge University, Lena also acted as supervisor of undergraduate students of the Natural Science Tripos and was a Fellow at St Edmund’s College. Lena joined the lab in fall 2017 as Staff Scientist and supports Melina in the general management and organisation of the department.
