The German Research Association funds a new collaborative research center (SFB) involving university and non-university research departments with more than 10 million euros for four years. The new SFB is headed by the "Universitätsmedizin Göttingen".

Many bacteria infect their hosts using a sophisticated injection apparatus. Researchers at the MPI for Biophysical Chemistry, together with colleagues in Berlin and Seattle, have solved the structure of an injection needle at atomic resolution for the first time.
