Targets for Treating Cancer and Virus Infections

We are trying to identify cellular target structures to improve cancer therapy. Major areas of interest are the tumor suppressor p53 and the cellular response to DNA damage. Many chemotherapeutics cause such damage in tumor cells and thereby stop cell proliferation. To make these therapies more efficient, we are targeting cellular signaling cascades and the synthesis of DNA building blocks. We are now transferring some of these approaches to virus-infected cells, thereby trying to interfere with the replication of the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2.
